What to do: A Week in Auckland

What to do: A Week in Auckland

Spending a week in the city of sails? We’ve got you covered with something for everyone. Cheese, wine, hikes, beaches, food and more. Auckland has a lot of offer, as long as you know where to go.

Monday: Go for a Hike in Hunua

Start the week right with a bright and early morning. Grab a picnic and spend the day at the Hunua Ranges. Not only is there a stunning waterfall and pool to swim in on a lazy summer’s day, but they have a number of hiking tracks, suitable for all fitness levels. A twenty minute loop, a three hour loop, or a five hour loop. Each hike will deliver you panoramas to die for.

Tuesday: Puhoi

Drive up the Hibiscus Coast Highway North of Auckland and stop at Puhoi Valley Café & Cheese store to pick up some supplies, then drive out to the coast at one of their many beaches, or even the Wenderholm regional park for a light afternoon of laughter.

Wednesday: Check out the black sand beach at Piha

A crisp drive West of the city will lead you to Piha, a black sand beach (created due to the volcanic landscapes of New Zealand). Whether you want to catch a wave, paddle in the ocean, or just sit with a good book, Piha is our go to sandy hideaway. Make a stop at Arataki Visitor Centre on the way – enjoy the view and take selfies at the wooden frame overlooking the harbour (above).

Thursday: Hit the Botanic Gardens

While you’re nursing those sore muscles from the hike, hop in the car and cruise just half an hour south of the city centre, to where you’ll find the hidden botanic gardens, nestled in the heart of the south, explore themed gardens from roses to cacti, to edibles. Maybe even take a nap on the rolling lawns by the lake.

Friday: Enjoy an evening at Mission Bay

There’s no better way to spend a calm Friday evening than watching the sunset over the tip of Rangitoto Island and enjoying all that Mission Bay has to offer. Walkways, parks, and cute fountain spots ideal for Instagram. If that weren’t enough, the beachfront is lined with restaurants and dessert joints, as well as a few good bars to grab a beer and take the edge off.

Saturday: Catch the ferry to Waiheke

Bring your car on the ferry and cruise over to an island famous for views, food, and most importantly, wine. Saturday’s are notoriously slow on the island, so you’ll have plenty of time to check out the Ostend market and maybe even have a quick tan on the beach.

Sunday: Have dinner at the top of the Sky Tower

After a busy week, strap on your very best to go out to dinner at Auckland’s restaurant in the clouds on Sunday Night after enjoying a delicious meal at Orbit, stick around and spend some time appreciating the busy city lights from above, when you’re done, head down to the ground floors and have a few games at the casino.
