Where Can I Park My Camper?

Where Can I Park My Camper?

After a long day driving the last thing you want to do is stress about where you can and can’t park up for the night. So here at ___Mode we’ve done our best clear things up for you.

There are two types of campers we rent at ___Mode: Self-Contained, and Non Self-Contained. The difference is important when looking for somewhere to spend the night.

Freedom Camping

Freedom Camping is any time you stay on public land that is not recognised as a camping ground or holiday park. Each district has their own rules and regulations. To make things easier, we’ve put together a location index for each district HERE.

For a full list of Freedom Camping laws and regulations visit HERE.

Department of Conservation Campsites

There are over 250 Department of Conservation (DOC) campsites across New Zealand, some of them serviced, and some of them basic. You can check out their website to find a map of all their campsites HERE. Most will come with a charge, but there are DOC sites across the country that are free to stay at.

Self-Contained Campers: Yes

Non Self-Contained Campers: Sometimes

Holiday Parks

With over 400 Holiday Parks across New Zealand, you’ll never be far from somewhere to spend the night. While it would take forever to list them all, we’d recommend checking out Top 10’s website HERE to try and find somewhere great.

Non Self-Contained Campers: Yes
