What hiring with Mode looks like at Alert Level 3

The pandemic has affected small businesses in huge ways. As a business in the tourism sector, we have suffered greatly. But we’re still here, here to show everyone that New Zealanders are nothing but resilient in these troubled times.

Keeping in mind the safety of our team, our customers, and the general public, Mode Rentals is happy to introduce ‘Contactless Rental’. But what does this mean?


Government Update

As of 13th September 2021: The Auckland Region is still at Alert Level 4 whilst the rest of the country remains at Delta Level 2 until 11:59 PM on 21st September 2021. Auckland will then move down to Alert Level 3 but a decision regarding alert levels for the rest of the country is yet to be announced.

So far, the message has been consistent, being ‘safe’ means coming down to three main things – observing proper hygiene in the workplace, physical distancing, and placing contact tracing capabilities. 

Cleanliness and Sanitation

At Mode, we pride ourselves on having a fleet that is regularly maintained, clean and safe to use. After doing standard cleaning procedures, all high-touch surfaces such as steering wheels, gear sticks, hand brakes, chairs, and door handles are re-sanitised. Handwashing instructions for our staff are still visible at all branches. Use of protective gloves is being observed and staff that don’t feel well are urged to stay home.


At Alert Level 3, we are following a contactless pickup and dropoff process. However, where contact with our team is unavoidable, masks must be worn at all times by both our staff and our customers.

Contactless Rental

We are re-launching our contactless rental process where customers who pickup and drop-off vehicles do not need to have a face to face interaction with our staff members or are not required to enter our offices. By the time you arrive at our premises, your vehicle will be ready. All details are updated, documents are uploaded, and payments are processed prior to the hire date through our Customer Check-in page.

Contact Tracing

NZ Contact Tracing QR Codes are available across our different locations. We encourage all customers to scan as you check in and out of our premises. Internally, all our staff members are following strict record-keeping so we know who interacted with which customer should the need arise.

Shuttle Service

Due to the shifting and unpredictable nature of the pandemic, shuttle services is not available at Level 3. Mode is ready to share up to $30 NZD* of transportation cost when picking up or dropping off your rental vehicle. This will be given as a credit at the end of your hire, just present a receipt of your ride.

*Up to $15 NZD for pickup and up to $15 NZD for drop-off
